Life in the White House is the subject of Us magazine's cover story this week, and includes these highlights:
Malia -- who is currently reading the "Twilight" book series (she tackled Harry Potter with dad) -- plans to do her homework from Sidwell Friends School at the desk where Abraham Lincoln wrote the Emancipation Proclamation!
But Michelle's goal is keeping her daughters grounded. In addition
to doing chores like pouring milk on their own cereal despite a huge
White House staff, "pretty much we'll see Michelle and the girls in the
White House kitchen, trying to bake something together, and her raising
them as if they were still in Chicago," family friend Kim Lightford
tells Us Weekly."
The Telegraph reports more details from the cover story:
Although the Obamas did not speak directly to the magazine for the report,
they posed for a happy family portrait and clearly authorised friends and
staff to be quoted, on and off the record. ...
The First Lady has reportedly confided to friends that the biggest plus for
their family set-up is that President Obama can have breakfast and dinner
with his wife and daughters -- a luxury he rarely enjoyed during the previous
two years on the campaign trail."
The New York Post shares these tidbits:
"Michelle is like, 'Let's have a day at the White House for single
moms, military moms, all the working moms who want to chill,' " family
friend Kim Lightford told the magazine.
"She's about letting them know it's OK to balance work and family."...
"Michelle told me the girls are already in a choir, so I think
they're fully acclimating," said Ellen Kasoff Gray, owner of DC's
Equinox restaurant - where the first couple celebrated Michelle's
birthday this month."
