There are two versions of Megaman Battle Network 5. I bought the Team Protoman version (it's yellow).
The game is fun because you get to be two different characters, but later in the game you can combine with other characters. The two different characters that you begin with are Megaman and Protoman. Later in the game, Megaman can combine with Protoman, Magnet Man, Gyro Man, Search Man, Medi or Napalm Man.
Megaman becomes Proto Soul, Magnet Soul, Gyro Soul, Napalm Soul, Search Soul or Medi Soul.
The game is hard to beat because you have to beat a lot of viruses, almost nonstop. I am stuck in one area that I cannot beat, the drill area #3 machine. If you can help me, post your tips here.
I will get back to you when I have completed more.

The best way to beat nebula gray is to use program advance chips and chaos unison. I prefer to use chaos unison with drkswrd. It works like lifesword program advance.
It does 400 damage and hits in an area of wide sword and longsword. Like this:
x= area damaged
m= megaman's location
your | enemy
side | side

[][][m]|[x][x][]
[][][]|[x][x][]
Also the dark thunder chaos unison is useful. Chaos unison has no risk in this battle even if you mess up. Dark mega won't apper unless nebula gray sommuns him with a dark chip.

im on the second fight with nebula gray on nebula area 6 it sure is hard to complete the standards and have more than 40 megachips( i didnt cheat ) im now battling the ds navis. all of your help are good but worthless, they cant even get pass the ninja traps or beat nebula gray! the first one on mt. bellanius

to activate the portal to crane comp go to oran island and find the old abandoned crane outside of the mine and turn it on. You can't jack in to the crane but the portal will now be open on the net in oran area 1.

After you get the letter from grandpa look at the doghouse through the window in your house. From there go to oran isle and go through the mine and in one of the top doors is a machine. Go to the top right corner and search that panel. Then go to end city and head to the top and check the eye of the fish on the right. From there go to acdc area three and go to the spot where that bonus panel was in the liberation mission. Talk to the navi and then go to the middle right square and face the arrow into oran area. Check and a door will appear And that is it.

first of all, NEVER USE A DARK CHIP EVER!!! It will reduce your max hp by one PERMANENTLY. The only safe way to use one is by bonding with it in chaos unison. but to use any chip select it in the custom screen at the start of the fight then when you have selected the chips you want hit the ok fight button and then hit "A" in battle to use each chip you selected in order.

The only way to get sp shakey 3 s is to battle the shakey viruses and 1 out of about every thousand times you will get that chip.

at the program dealer in undernet 2 there is an awesome program called anti bug. Install it on your navicust and then any thing you put in in any way won't give megaman a bug. i.e. 2 of same color can now touch each other, bumpy programs on comand line, more than 4 colors of program etc.

to solve 3rd acdc 4th square go to acdc three and find te little side area with a navi who will tell you that you are close to where your looking for. then go to the center right square facing the entrance to oran and hit the a button. a door will appear and you will be in a vision burst.
