Coffee, Coffee Everywhere, But…

This post was inspired by AGK's post: Dennis the Menace. It is, (among other things,) a lament about the loss of electricity and therefore the loss of hot coffee.

I have two words for you Angela, French Press. As a veteran of many a North Carolina ice storm, I found that I can deal with almost anything Ol' Momma Nature has to throw at me, as long I have my coffee. So even as a student, (way long ago,) I somehow found the extra fifty bucks to make sure I always had a way to brew.

What will fifty bucks buy you?

A decent French Coffee Press, ( I have the Bodum Kenya model … $19.95,) a propane camp stove that is safe to use inside, (I have the Coleman Low Profile model …$24.95) and a bottle of propane, (about $ 5.00) I have two of them.

Now I'm down in the land of big wind, ( and I'm not referring to Jeb Bush ) but Florida is my new home. So from June through October, I keep my French Press and camp stove ready. Although the Tampa Bay area has been spared the big storms, one could easily roll through here, and we'd have to board up the windows. I guess I should keep a flashlight and batteries handy as well.

What do you keep handy for emergencies?

A man with priorities!

As you know, coffee is near and dear to me... a finely tuned machine running on caffine, nicotine and alcohol :-). Camping gear has always served me well in cave man times. I use a Melita dripper almost exclusively. I grind my coffee every morning. When the big wind comes or the cold brings ice, I make sure I have several days worth all ground up and ready to go. Then root around for the camp stove.
