Off the Hook
UPS is holding my son's package hostage, and I'll pay the price. It was supposed to be delivered today, but as of 5pm it hadn't shown up.
It wouldn't matter if it were a solid gold Xbox, or a buck-twenty-five toy from the back of a cereal box, in a child's world, it is priceless. Mail, any mail is worth it's weight in titanium, but a package bearing an item that the child has waited for is indefinably unapproachable from a monetary stand point.
Now I fear that something terribly wrong has happened to it, and I will spend the rest of the evening and possibly the next couple of days listening to Colter becoming more and more dejected. It will feel something like nails across a blackboard, slowly getting louder and louder.
How does your child handle waiting for a package?
It came at 6:20 EDT, Im off the hook.
How about how does MY HUSBAND handle waiting for a package. Well, like a child. ;) He wants his music CD's when he wants 'em!

Much like waiting for family that never shows when expected...they've learned it'll get here when it gets here. If I have inside info, I keep it to myself just in case.

So I posted yesterday ... don't know where it went.
Anyway, when I was small, waiting for 6-8 weeks for the cereal box trinket seemed like an eternity. I can relate to Colter. The letters from grandma addressed to "master" willi were always a thrill - WOW! US mail delivered to ME!- a tiny speck in the universe. Then there were the "autographed" NASA photos too cool. Now that I'm old, I would just as soon do w/o mail - it's mostly junk anyway or worse bills. Now a days, I have stuff sent via FedEx or some other like carrier - I can track it - keeping me off the edge of my seat in anticipation :-)
So what was Colter waiting so impatiently for?

I have to agree with Marcia's comment about her husband being impatient.....Rich can't handle waiting at all!!!!! He wargames with 25mm lead figures and he does a lot of trading on Barter town. When a package is on it's way,he calls a few times every day to check if it has arrived.
When I have to mail a package for him, he calls to make sure it went out on time. What can you do???

Hey the new design looks great. My kids aren't old enough for your question today...

I had a package delivered to me via UPS on Thursday last week - finally. I had been emailed the tracking number so I watched the progress as it made it's way from Florida to my house.
Now, I'm a stay-at-home mom. I know the traffic patterns around here. I know my mailman's name, and I know my UPS man. I know there are three USPS trucks in our neighborhood, and one UPS truck that comes through; and I know that any UPS packages will be delivered by 3:10. I know that, because, well, I've lived here and I've observed it.
So, I'm waiting for this package. It doesn't come. I call about 4:00. The guy was anything but Customer Service friendly. (I used to be a C.Rep in an award-winning account of an award winning company.) I finally told him to "shut up and listen to me, please." He shut up but didn't really listen. (Belive me, those were harsh words from me.)
I called back an hour later and got another lady who was very nice and said she would contact the local UPS depot and the truck. And I would get a call back within the hour.
I did.
I found out that our UPS guy was healing from an injury sustained in a boating accident and that a substitute was on his route. She, the C. Rep. was apologetic for the delay and said the truck would be there within 45 minutes.
It was.
We now have our gradebook for school.

How does Tony wait for a package? About like me. See above post. I don't wait - patiently, even if it's for a gradebook.
