Hey there - It's good to be on board with such a great group.
DotMom. Ha. I love that, perhaps because it describes me so well.
I started blogging when my older daughter was born, even before it was called blogging, almost four and a half years ago. Although I first started it as a clever way of keeping in touch with faraway family and friends, I've kept it up for a multitude of different reasons. First and foremost, it keeps me sane!
It is wonderful to connect with people who are going through the same kinds of things. Parenting is hard. Anyone who says otherwise is either (a) foolish or (b) letting someone else do all the work. Being a parent is the most challenging and rewarding project I've ever had to manage. :)
From a sociological standpoint, parenting generates some interesting feelings.
We'd do anything for our children... shield them from bullets or leap in front of a speeding train. Heaven forbid if someone tried to harm one of them, we'd tear their heads off with our bare hands!
We love our children unconditionally, yet we beg them to give us five minutes alone. They drive us batty. We get angry and frustrated. We yell.
On some days, all I really want is to have an uninterrupted shower. Or to be able to brush my teeth without someone charging in. I don't like to yell in the bathroom. You know what the acoustics are like, you might as well be shouting into a bullhorn. :)
This is work, this parenting stuff, but I wouldn't trade it for anything. The fact is that we don't own our children. They are only ours to borrow for a short time, because when they grow up they'll belong to the world. And this is what I try to remember when I'm yelling in the bathroom, or stepping on a pile of wet towels.
