My daughter has become a big time hugger with little help from her father and I - we hug alot and are very affectionate with each other our friends and family and her but we don't encourage hugging if she's not into it. But alas she doesn't need encouragement - the parents at her baby gym love to get hugs from her.

I think that is a personality trait. and I hope they hold on to it for a LONG time.

On the other hand, you get him to come running to you yelling "Mommy!" Seems to be a good tradeoff.
