If Colter had had a full day of school today, he would have eaten pizza for lunch. Friday is always pizza day at school, so from the time he was in kindergarten, we let him buy lunches on Fridays. The big mystery is why he wants to buy lunches all the other days, too. For years, we were sending him with his favorite sandwiches and snacks, and he didn't want them. Eventually, we gave in and let him buy lunch at school daily, but I just don't get it. What is the appeal of frozen chicken nuggets or ground beef surprise when you could have a lunch packed with love?
Hmmm, how can I answer this as I am homeschooling Tony this year? Pack a lunch (in other words, take a lunch box downstairs to "school?" or "buy" (come upstairs and eat a lunch at the dining room table)? I suppose once the school year gets started, We will do a bit of both.

Liam takes lunch, mostly because I have to have an accurate carb count to give him his insulin, but also because he is a fairly picky eater.
This child eats the same thing every.single.day. Cold roast chicken, baby carrots, 3 cookies (they look like Oreos but they're sugar-free) and milk, which he buys at school.

My sis liked to buy because she likes her food hot, not cold. She used to toss the awesome sub sandwiches my mom made...in the garbage can in her room! My mom found them while dumping the garbage and was very upset at the waste. After that, she got lunch money.

Maybe most of the other kids are buying. I'm sure he will tire of it. It probably seems cool right now. LOL

Lillianna is very picky. She will be living on peanut butter and fluff or jelly sandwiches or yogurt and/or fruit or vegetables. That's kind of it. I can't waste money on her buying a lunch that she won't eat. Even if it is chicken nuggets which she loves, she will eat 2 and waste the rest of it.
PB&J may be dull and boring and I will try to make it more interesting but I probably won't be able to. At least I know she will eat this.

When DD was in preschool for 3 years, I had to make a lunch for her every day. When she started kindergarten last year, I was thrilled to finally get to the point where I didn't have to make any more lunches for her. She also wanted to buy her own hot lunch too, so it ended up being a win-win situation for us both! Lunches at her school are $1.50.
For the kids that do bring their own lunches, they usually have to bring sandwiches which can get kind of boring. The school doesn't have a microwave available so it limits what the kids can bring.
During her summer break, when she was in different summer camps, I had to go back to bagging her lunches. Her first day of 1st grade starts this Monday, so,yeah, no more bag lunches for awhile ...well, at leas til summertime rolls around again, LOL.

I was shocked to find out how much the elementary school lunches cost here. We pack, because I'm not spending enough money on lunch for me to feed a 6-year-old! Heh. Our compromise is buying milk, and going over the school lunch menu and occasionally buying if there's something "special."

Hmm, with our first in K this year, we're new to this experience. However, today was her first purchase day (pizza & ice cream). The rest of the week, we plan to pack it in. :)

I stopped making lunches here at home when Alex told me it took him too long to walk from/to school and that he always got back to school late. So I started giving him $5 a day -- which is plenty for a good cafeteria lunch. But his friends don't want to eat at the caf (apparently it's uncool?), so they go to the local pizza place where you can eat two slices for about $2. Some of his friends eat there for lunch five days a week! Can you say "zits"?

My daughter packs a lunch, but that's only one day per week since she's in preschool. But I do recall wishing (oh how hard I used to wish) that my folks would let me buy lunch. Maybe his friends buy lunch every day?

Growing up, it was cool to buy your lunches. And I liked them because it was American food that I never got at home. Poor me had a French mom who was a gourmet cook and we had to eat awful stuff like lobster and steamed clams for dinner.
It was also the only chance to sneak chocolate, which I wasn't allowed because I was supposedly allergic to it.

Our kids' school lunches are good and hot meals. When I was in school, we also had yummy hot lunches. So that's why MINE eat at school -- good food.
